Circular Economy Innovation and the EU Green Deal

May 13, 2022 @ 17:00 - 18:30 CDT

Two years on from the launch of the EU Green Deal, it’s time we discussed what opportunities are emerging for circular economy innovators.

Approved in early 2020, the EU Green Deal set the objective for Europe to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, resulting in a cleaner environment, more affordable energy, smarter transport, new jobs and an overall better quality of life for citizens.

Two years into the plan, what do we already know about what this means for businesses in practice, specifically those focusing on the circular economy? Policy shifts have a big impact on collaborations between startups and corporates, investment opportunities and fast-streaming innovative projects.

At this event, Annika Stuckenhoff of the BDI Circular Economy Initiative, will share in layman terms what the EU Green Deal signifies, and the opportunities and impact it can have on various industries and startups. As convener of the Circular Together incubator programme for circular economy ventures in Berlin, Impact Hub Berlin shares a key interest in this ecosystem.

Annika Stuckenhoff is the Berlin-based Project Manager at the recently founded BDI Circular Economy Initiative. Her background is in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship & the Circular Economy, with a special focus on the role of digital technologies as an enabler of the circular transition.

About BDI and the Circular Economy Initiative

The Federation of German Industries (BDI) communicates German industries’ interests to the political authorities concerned. It offers strong support for companies in global competition. The BDI has access to a widespread network in Germany and Europe, to all the important markets and to international organisations. The BDI accompanies the capturing of international markets politically. It also offers information and politico-economic guidance on all issues relevant to industries. It represents 40 inter-trade organisations and more than 100,000 companies with approximately 8 million employees. The BDI Circular Economy Initiative is made up of BDI member associations, companies, and other organisations. The aim of the more than 50 stakeholders is to pursue the circular economy as a common strategic goal of industrial value creation.
