EnergyBar: A Virtual Tour of Greentown Houston

Please join us on Thursday, Sept. 24 for the next edition of our virtual EnergyBar networking event! Entrepreneurs, investors, students, and friends of climatetech are invited to attend, meet colleagues, and engage in a community that is focused on climate action at work.
This EnergyBar is a celebration of Greentown Labs Houston’s inaugural location—which will be announced on Sept. 22—and will feature virtual tours of the new space! Greentown Labs Houston will open in Spring 2021 and will provide more than 40,000 sq. ft. of prototyping lab and office space for more than 50 early-stage startups. Join us for an exclusive preview of the incubator’s floor plan and renderings.

EnergyBar is Greentown’s networking event devoted to helping people in climate technology meet and discuss innovations. Entrepreneurs, investors, students, and friends of climatetech are invited to attend, meet colleagues, and expand our growing community.
This event will be hosted virtually on Remo.co, which features virtual tables for organic conversation and networking. Attendees can engage in video conference with other attendees at tables of two to six individuals and seamlessly transition to other tables throughout the event.
Our attendees typically span a variety of disciplines within energy, efficiency, and renewables. In general, if you’re looking for a job in climatetech or energy, trying to expand your network, or perhaps thinking about starting your own energy-related company, this is the event for you. Expect to have conversations about issues facing advanced and renewable energy technologies and ways to solve our most pressing energy problems. Suggested dress is business casual.
About Our Speakers:
José Beceiro is the CEO and founder of Beceiro Strategies. José has worked in the cleantech and high-tech industries for 15 years. His background and areas of expertise include clean energy project development, site selection, university research collaboration, economic development strategy, and corporate business development. As a fundraiser, José has raised over 1 million dollars per year in corporate support for university programs. As an economic developer, he helped grow Austin’s cleantech industry to over 250 companies and 20,000 jobs.
Currently, José serves as the Senior Director of the Global Energy 2.0 initiative for the Greater Houston Partnership. His work in Houston focuses on transitioning its energy economy toward a sustainable energy future.
Ryan LeVasseur joined Rice Management Company in 2019 as the Managing Director of Direct Real Estate. In this role, Mr. LeVasseur is responsible for investments in strategic development opportunities in Houston. Prior to joining RMC, Mr. LeVasseur spent five years in Hines’ New York development office where he was a Managing Director. Prior to joining Hines, Mr. LeVasseur was a Director at HR&A Advisors. While at HR&A, he was responsible for urban development assignments in an array of locations including the New York City metropolitan area, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Detroit.
Sven Harmsen is the Director of External Ventures at NOVA Saint-Gobain. Prior to joining Saint-Gobain NOVA, Harmsen served as Investment Director at M Ventures, the global corporate venture arm of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. From M Ventures’ office in Cambridge, Mass., he established and led a global investment team focusing on strategic investments in the field of performance materials and built an international portfolio of strategic investments. He also previously worked for BASF Venture Capital (BVC) and started its first investment office on the East Coast of the U.S. During his time in strategic venture units, he actively served on various Boards of portfolio start-ups as director or observer and generated strong deal flow covering diverse technical fields being of interest for BASF Venture Capital and later on for M Ventures.
David Baldwin is the Co-President of SCF Partners. Earning his degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in the 1980′s, David began his career as a Drilling and Production Engineer with Union Pacific Resources. Intrigued with the business aspect of the energy industry, David returned to his alma mater to earn his MBA.
While in graduate school, David started an energy consulting business and worked for General Atlantic Partners, a global venture capital firm and early investor of SCF. He met SCF Founder L. E. Simmons through General Atlantic and joined SCF after graduating in 1991. Over the years, David has been responsible for creating numerous investment platforms around emerging energy trends. He is currently responsible for overseeing SCF’s U.S. based investments. He also is a member of the Board of Directors of Forum Energy Technologies, Nine Energy Services, and Select Energy Services.
Julie Vitek is Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for ENGIE North America, part of the global energy and services provider ENGIE. ENGIE North America offers a range of capabilities in the U.S. and Canada to help business and public sector customers accelerate their energy transition by decarbonizing, decentralizing, and digitalizing their operations.
Within ENGIE North America’s Government & Regulatory Affairs team, she supports policy, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement for the company’s growing Cities & Communities business line, which serves Municipal, University, School, and Hospital customers. She also coordinates company policy/advocacy-focused industry organization memberships and sponsorships to ensure alignment and effective participation across ENGIE’s business lines, and leads community affairs, volunteerism, and philanthropic efforts at the corporate level while providing guidance to ENGIE’s operational companies.
Brent Gaskamp is the VP of Business Development at Direct Energy. He has a successful track record of building high-performing and leading complex cross-functional teams that achieve business results. Previously, Gaskamp has worked for Inform, Videology Group, Yahoo!, and Dell. His background in business development has proven his ability to adapt to changing business needs and proven success in multiple industries, company sizes (startup, mid-market, and large enterprise), customer segments (B2B, B2C), and range of category maturity (emerging and mature). Gaskamp is passionate about customers, data, technology, and developing people.
