ONLINE: Venus – Cloudy with a Chance of Lava Flows

September 22, 2021 @ 18:00 - 18:30 CDT

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (https://www.lpi.usra.edu/) presents a family-friendly Virtual Exploration Experiences with Planetary Scientists (VEEPS) event about Venus.

Description: “Why is Venus so different from Earth? Despite being our closest neighbor in the solar system, we still have a lot to learn about this mysterious planet. Venus’ super-hot surface is cloaked in thick clouds that make it difficult to observe. Recently, NASA selected two missions that will study Venus’ surface and atmosphere. Families and children are invited to join us on September 22 for an exciting VEEPS program! Our guest scientist, Dr. Justin Filiberto (LPI), will help us learn all about Venus. Then we’ll share a cool volcano demonstration and invite you all to join us in a fun, hands-on activity!”

Dr. Justin Filiberto is a senior staff scientist at the Lunar and Planetary Institute, where he studies volcanism and how the crusts and mantles of planetary bodies (Venus, Mars, and the Earth and Moon) have changed over time. He is a member of the DAVINCI mission team, which was recently selected by NASA for its Discovery Program and will be the first U.S.-led mission to Venus’ atmosphere since 1978.
