Understanding the Spread of Misinformation & Disinformation in Canada

August 19 @ 12:00 - 13:00 CDT

Problematic information online is one of the biggest threats to our society today.

“Problematic information” is meant to encompass many forms of incorrect or misleading information. Disinformation (employed specifically to misrepresent information for political, scientific or social persuasion or deception) and misinformation (false information that is shared without ill intent) are two forms of problematic information that have widespread and increasingly alarming consequences.

Disinformation and misinformation have always existed; however, today, the convergence of multiple interconnected systems and trends, like globalization, an increase & weaponization of AI, large social media platforms, political polarization, scientific skepticism, and citizen journalism, have created an environment where the spread of mis/disinformation is at a rate never before seen in society.

Join this BBL to better understand the spread of misinformation and disinformation and how to stop it!
