Why Startup Pitch Deck Templates Don’t Work

April 2 @ 10:30 - 11:00 CDT

We’ll show you the right way to build your pitch deck to raise startup investor funds

Many founders mistakenly assume that finding the right pitch deck template and filling it in will result in a successful fundraise. This myth is propagated by dozens of pitch deck articles and coaches that proclaim their template to be everything you need to raise investor funds.

But pitch decks don’t raise funds — fundable companies do!

Pitch decks should tell a story of your fundable startup that:

  • Captivates
  • Validates
  • Motivates

Pitch deck templates can be a useful starting point. But founders shouldn’t just “fill in the blanks” because that rarely tells a captivating, compelling story. Entrepreneurs need to customize the template to tell a unique story about your startup. That starts with designing a story flow, then building the detail needed to support the plausible claims you make in your pitch.

Join us for a quick fireside chat with:

  • Sam Wong, a startup CEO coach
  • Zach Harris, a builder of pitch decks that have raised millions
  • Griffin Hermes, a principal with Pegasus Angel Accelerator

In this 30-minute conversation, we’ll discuss common founder fundraising mistakes (especially with pitch deck templates) and how to fix them. We’ll wrap with a brief audience Q&A.

Fundable Startups helps founders build fundable companies, fundraise, scale, and exit. Our coaching, training, and tools helps founders build healthy, fundable companies. As a published author and a CEO, CTO or Tech VP of 5 startups with 3 exits, Sam Wong leads Fundable Startups in creating premium, deep-dive, visual training and tools to help founders with great execution.

Griffin Hermes is a sales and go-to-market leader, founder, and investor. Currently, he serves as a Principal for Pegasus Angel Accelerator.

His background includes several years scaling and building new territories at CDW, a Fortune 200 technology provider, before joining NutKase, an EdTech startup, as the first sales and go-to-market hire. There, he built out and led the sales team driving annual revenue from $750k to more than $6.5M in 20 months.

This experience fueled his passion for the early-stage venture space. He subsequently worked at two accelerators, most recently as Head of Business Development at Expert Dojo. During this time, he founded AnthroMachina, a sales and business development automation firm focused on helping founders and lean teams execute their go-to-market strategies.

Griffin holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising and consumerism from Miami University. He also mentors at Techstars and PlugandPlay.
