Access to Opportunity: Affordable Housing + Affordable Transportation

The Nexus of Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing and “High-Quality” Affordable Transportation

Did you know Houston is now less affordable than New York City when transportation costs are factored into overall housing costs?

LINK Houston partnered with the Rice University’s Kinder Institute to study where affordable housing and high-quality affordable transportation currently coexist in Houston, how well housing and transportation options serve families and individuals, and what decisionmakers should consider for future projects to keep housing truly affordable.

Join us on April 2 for a free breakfast event at Leonel Castillo Community Center for the launch of this affordable housing and transportation study, as well as two hands-on tools for non-profit and government housing developers and housing counselors.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will deliver opening remarks. Following the study presentation, we will also hear from nationally recognized expert panelists:

  • Beth Osborne, Director of Transportation for America (Washington, DC)
  • Scott Bernstein, Founder and former CEO of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (Chicago, IL)
  • Amanda Merck, Senior Research Area Specialist of Salud America! (San Antonio, TX)
  • (moderator) Antoine Bryant, Director of Business Development at Moody Nolan and member of the Houston Planning Commission (Houston, TX)
