You Belong, Here.

Creating a Safe Space for All

Welcome to a community that cares! We understand that people are happier, more creative and more productive in a growth-oriented culture and environment that encourages them to show up at their best.

In order to provide you with a space that’s equitable and inclusive of the diversity that you wish to bring to it, and that honors the privacy and personal security of all who may enter the spaces we host, we ask you to review and respect the following practices. Any person who disrespects these practices, and/or whose actions create an unsafe or unwelcoming environment, will be asked to move to a sequestered area or leave the space entirely.

We are always open to improving our space and policies, so please feel free to share your feedback and recommendations with us at [email protected]. Thank you!

COVID-19 SPACE USE POLICY
WITH GREAT SPACES COME GREAT RESPONSIBILITIES...

Impact Hub Houston Members live/work/play in shared spaces. With shared space comes shared responsibility: Please act in alignment with the following principles to help maintain a high level of social fluency, camaraderie, creativity, and productivity for our community:

RESPECTFUL

The Impact Hub community is as diverse and unique as our city. For it to thrive, it is essential that each of us commits to contributing to a welcoming, supportive, and safe space for everyone. We want you to have a genuine interest in others and learn about your peers and their cultures — and to have healthy conversations around them — but please respect others’ boundaries. Reflect on how your words and actions may affect those around you. We are all responsible for ensuring that we build a foundation for Houston to flourish!

TRUSTWORTHY

We have your back. We trust you to have ours, too. While we try to vet and verify the official members, mentors, and partners whom you may frequently see and interact with in our spaces, we rely on each of you to help preserve the integrity of our community, overall. Please act in ways that both demonstrate and deserve trust. Let’s ensure we can look out for and lean on each other!

CLEAN

Keep it clean, folks! Please make sure all spaces are in a neat and sanitary condition after use — aim to leave any space in a better state than how you found it! We know everyone gets busy, but remember to budget time at the end of any meeting(s) or work session to clean up after yourself. Your neighbors will love you for it. 🙂

CONSIDERATE

Be mindful of the people around you. Throughout our spaces, consider: Should I take this call to a place where it won’t distract others? Is my conversation too loud? Should I put my headphones on? Is this meal better suited for another area? Am I invading someone’s personal space or preventing them from being productive?

JOYFUL

Take a moment. Breathe. Remember that you’re surrounded by people who believe in building a better Houston. They’re willing to roll up their sleeves and commit their time, talent, and treasure to work towards a more equitable and sustainable world. Just like you. So treat yourself! Make time for gratitude. Make space for memorable moments. Happy dance when you hear your jam come on. And celebrate each other, with each other, at every opportunity!

CODE OF CONDUCT

WELCOME OTHERS. DO GOOD. HAVE FUN!

Diverse representation and an inclusive culture are central to our work to meet community needs and change inequitable systems. As the stewards of Code for Houston (Houston’s official Code for America brigade), Impact Hub Houston asks all participants and stakeholders to abide by our Code of Conduct (github.com/codeforhoustonorg/codeofconduct):
  1. Create a safe and respectful environment for all participants, where people are free from discrimination or harassment.
  2. Create a place where people can fully express their identities.
  3. Respect others: Everyone’s ideas, skills, and contributions have value.
  4. Encourage questions. Don’t assume everyone has the same context or understanding of any given situation.
  5. Encourage members and participants to listen as much as — or even more than — they speak.
  6. Create ways for people to contribute productively with their skills and energy. Use additive language like “yes/and” versus destructive language like “no/but.”
  7. Strive to build solutions that are open and anyone can use. Prioritize activities that foster public benefit vs. private profit.
  8. Design and develop solutions with input from and access for those who are often excluded from the civic process.
  9. Ensure that the community’s diversity is well-represented in the planning, design, and implementation of solutions. This includes inviting participation from women, people of color, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ persons, people from different generations and abilities, and other marginalized groups.
  10. Actively involve mission-aligned stakeholders and those with subject matter expertise. Ensure that relationships and conversations among community members, local government, and partners remain respectful, participatory, and productive.

Impact Hub Houston reserves the right to ask anyone in violation of this Code of Conduct to leave and/or not participate in any of our activities, events, and digital forums. If you have witnessed or experienced a violation of our Code of Conduct and/or other policies, please contact the Impact Hub Houston team immediately via Slack, email at [email protected], or by text or call to 484.854.0945.
