Bring Your Climate Action Ideas to Life at Climathon 2019!
OCT 25, 2019 | IMPACT HUB HOUSTON @ HX
Climate change is at our doorstep. Literally.
Houston has been flooded by three “500-year” storms in just three years.
Our homes and communities can’t take another 497 years of this. It’s time for action.
Houston, “The Energy Capital of the World,” has experienced three 500-year-flood disasters—including the destruction from Hurricane Harvey—in recent years. We’ve seen local talent rise to these challenges in the past, and want to give them a platform to take their solutions to the next level. In such a diverse city with a tremendous amount of resources, it seems only natural that Houston can help lead the way in developing local solutions that can scale to other contexts…especially in light of the Mayor’s recently-announced Climate Action Plan.
Climathon 2019 is Houston’s opportunity to:
Engage the nonprofit, startup and entrepreneurship communities to develop innovative solutions towards climate action
Build stronger relationships among impact-oriented organizations and communities
Connect thought leaders and subject matter experts with designers, developers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and activists for more creative, effective, and viable solutions
During the Climathon, you’ll connect with city officials and partners to bring about a shared vision for a healthier city. You’ll help turn this vision into a reality by participating in the hackathon: You can bring an existing idea to work on, or develop a new solution with an inspiring team. Coaches and experts will be on hand to help you develop promising solutions to Houston’s climate challenges!
After the Climathon, you can continue working on your solutions to create tangible change in your city and advance the movement. For those serious about transforming their ideas into viable businesses, we’ll help you prepare to pitch to our panel of judges, who will evaluate which ideas move on for consideration for the Global Awards. The best solutions may go on to present at the Climathon Global Awards in Paris next year!
VOLUNTEERING FOR CLIMATHON 2019
As we will need all hands on deck that day, we are looking for around 8 volunteers to support the event during different shifts, including a couple of people to help capture this very special event with photography and filming. Are you the one?
Let’s break bread together at our quarterly Community Potluck, because why wait until Thanksgiving to sit around the table and enjoy yummy food with friends!? Our goal for the lunch is to gather more fantastic people in this city, connect and learn more about the awesome things that we are all up to… oh and of course, share some great food & drinks! Plates, utensils, napkins, cups, ice and soft drinks/water will be provided.
LET US KNOW WHAT YOU PLAN TO BRING:
Sign-up to bring your favorite dish, dessert or drink. We won’t judge if your food is store-bought (wink, wink) just make sure you add your dish to the sign-up sheet.
*Note: Please be sure to include an ingredient list for all homemade dishes to avoid any allergic reactions.
This event is open to the community but all must RSVP to attend.

Frost Bank presents “Fail Forward”:A Special Speaker Series to help entrepreneurs navigate financial challenges and learn how to get funded!
About this Event
Join us for an evening of #FailForward fun as we get real, behind-the-scenes stories straight from entrepreneurs on the challenges they faced trying to access and raise funding for their small business or startups … and learn from bankers and financial experts what those entrepreneurs could have done to make their journey easier and more successful.
In this “role play” style discussion, entrepreneurs will dig deep into their experiences and offer specific examples of actual attempts to receive funding from local banks. A series of subject matter experts curated by Frost Bank will then walk the entrepreneurs through those stories to identify where challenges could have been prevented, averted or quickly mitigated, and then share strategies and best practices that may help you avoid some of the pitfalls that can prevent you from getting funded.
SCHEDULE:
6PM Sign-in/Registration
6:30PM – 7:15 PM Role Play + Best Practices
7:15PM Q&A
7:30PM Open Networking
*Series presented by Frost Bank, in partnership with Impact Hub Houston and BakerRipley.
